Building, sustaining, and healing relationships can all present challenges. Whatever stage of a relationship you’re in, counseling may be beneficial. At Eirene Counseling & Consulting, our skilled therapists work with couples to improve communication, increase empathy, and achieve a greater level of harmony together. On this page, you can learn more about the benefits of relationship therapy and what to expect from your couples counseling sessions.
Why Should We Consider Couples Counseling?
There are many reasons couples reach out to us for counseling, including
Building strong relationships
Maybe you’ve heard of this as something like “premarital counseling,” these types of couples counseling sessions are all about building a shared future together. You’ll discuss the big stressors like finances and family, talk through future goals, and build a solid foundation for a lifetime of happiness together.
Strengthening your relationship
Even the best relationships can get better. Therapy gives even strong couples an opportunity to learn more about each other, improve communication, and feel closer.
Healing following difficult situations
Following a betrayal, infidelity, or other issue within a relationship, therapy may be an effective resource to repair the intimacy bond and move forward together or move apart with respect.
Navigating challenging life stages
When life is stressful or difficult, it makes keeping your relationship going that much more difficult. Therapy can help you work together to get through anything life throws your way.
Improving as parents
Whether your child is having difficulties, you don’t feel bonded with your kids, you have a different parenting style than your partner, or you just want to be better parents, couples counseling can help.

What Happens During Therapy Sessions with Couples?
Our therapists take a collaborative approach to therapy. We truly believe in therapy as an empowering process that gives individuals the space to learn and grow. For couples, one of the most important elements of therapy is the fact that it offers an example of good communication, boundary setting, and other interpersonal skills that are essential for thriving relationships. During an initial session, you’ll meet with your therapist to discuss your reasons for seeking therapy and develop a plan for what therapy will look like. In many cases, therapists also like to meet with individuals to ensure they are feeling completely heard and safe in communicating their needs in joint sessions. From there, sessions may be dedicated to learning specific relationship skills, resolving conflicts, making plans, or generally developing stronger bonds.
How Do I Get Started?
At our core, people strive for a sense of harmony. Within themselves and within their relationships. There’s a Greek word that refers to this feeling of peace within the self and harmony within relationships – eirene. That’s why we named our practice Eirene Counseling & Consulting. During couples therapy, we strive to help clients achieve a greater sense of peace intrinsically and in their interactions with others. If you’re ready to experience eirene, we hope you’ll reach out to us via email at [email protected], over the phone at 804-293-0306, or by completing our online scheduling request form. We look forward to hearing from you soon.
